Jeanfield Swifts v Lochee United
East Superleague (Juniors)
Ground: Riverside Stadium, Perth
For the second time I saw my local juniors side Lochee United play. This time I made a bus journey to Perth to see them in their visit to Jeanfield Swifts. Jeanfield Swifts got founded in 1928. Their biggest success was in 1973 when they won the Tayside Premier League, but they mainly played in the Tayside Division One. After the restructuring in 2006 they joined the East Region, Central Division. Promotions followed in 2012 and 2016, taking them to the East Superleague.
Jeanfield Swifts play at the Riverside Stadium, a decent ground for this level of football with a small covered terrace where most of the 90 spectators were standing, quite a few of them were visitors from Lochee United. The ground is in a nice location, on the edge of Perth within a park. This time I wasn’t entirely neutral, as I wanted my local team to win. I got to see exactly that as Lochee were the comfortable winners with a 4-0 victory. It was another enjoyable day out though and I understand more and more why junior football is quite popular in Scotland.
